5Great laptop!
By D. Jones
I looked at a lot of different laptops and read a lot of reviews about this one in particular, as well as some not very favourable forum posts regarding dodgy touchpads, keyboards and webcams. However, I saw this for £749, which was £100 cheaper than I'd seen it elsewhere and thought 'why not'.First impressions were very good. The case looks like black brushed aluminium, it is however plastic, which I guess keeps the weight down, but it still feels solid so it's all good. Fingerprints do show up pretty bad though. The screen is a 1080p 'glare' type panel, rather than a matte one, so using it outside in the sunlight would be difficult at best. The chiclet backlit keyboard is great, looks really good, and works as expected despite all the negative forum posts about it. The touchpad on mine seems fine, every now and again though if you're touching it really lightly you do get a little mouse pointer drift. Nothing excessive though, 95% of the time I use a usb mouse. To upgrade the memory or hard disk etc you have to undo 10 screws on the bottom of the laptop and then take the bottom panel off, which is all one piece. It does go back on easier than it comes off though. On the motherboard there's an mSATA port so you can plug in an mSATA ssd (mine didn't come with one however), and there's the usual 2 x memory sodimm slots and a slot for a 2.5 inch hard drive (changed mine for a 750gb hybrid drive).Mine came pre-installed with Win8 x64 (Not Pro), and if I'm honest Microsoft really messed up with that one, so I installed Win7 x64 Home Premium instead. To do that you have to turn off 'Secure Boot' in the BIOS (Press F2 on boot to enter BIOS) and you also have to turn off UEFI and just use legacy mode. Win7 runs great with the drivers available on the Lenovo website, only problem I had was with the webcam, for some reason the Win7 x64 drivers just don't seem to work in Skype etc so after a few days I thought I'd try the Win8 x64 drivers and hooray they worked perfectly.Been running great for a few weeks now with no problems. Even tried a few games such as Battlefield 3, Diablo 3, and The Lord of the Rings Online. BF3 runs on Very High at 1080p no problems, LOTRO runs on Very High at 70fps, and as a bonus the laptop's still quiet.Great laptop! :)

5Well Chuffed
By Me M. Whittaker
I've read loads of reviews regarding this laptop and the majority are positive, I've only had mine for a few days but I love it, have to agree with most of the reviews though about the touch pad, takes a bit of getting used to but getting better.I also purchased a wireless mouse to use with it and it makes it a lot easier.but as I've said I couldn't be happier with my choice, Windows 8 is also taking a bit of time to work around, find myself using the conventional desktop mode all the time so I'm wondering if it all its cracked up to be, however its very fast.just one more gripe, finger prints!!!!!!case is covered in them!!!! ho hum!

4Powerful laptop with nice features but a couple of letdowns.
By Mr. T. J. P. Fontana
I bought this laptop for two main purposes. The first of these is to be used as a college laptop next year. I will be studying computing and I wanted a powerful laptop with a nice keyboard that is comfortable to type on and enough power not to become sluggish. I also wanted a 1920 x 1080 screen as I find the typical 15.6" resolution to be a little inadequate. This laptop ticks all of the boxes. The laptop is very powerful, scoring only 33% less in a processor benchmark that the CPU in my desktop, a 5.0Ghz Sandybridge i7 2600k. The RAM is quick and sufficient for all but the most intensive of tasks and the laptop remains responsive most of the time. The keyboard feels lovely to type on with nicely shaped keys and a good amount of pressure required to activate them. The mousepad is also nice, a large surface that is responsive. There have been a lot of issues reported with this mousepad but I have not seen any of them during my week of usage. The one qualm with this laptop is the hard drive. The 5400RPM speed means that some of the time it can become a little bogged down, causing a little sluggishness. A couple of tweaks were able to fix this and ensuring that hard disk intensive processes are not constantly running.Furthermore, being a PC gamer, I own a fairly high end desktop on which I like to do a lot of gaming. However, a lot of the time I am away from home and during this time I often like to take a little bit of time off and play a few games. While this laptop is not intended to be a high end gaming laptop, the Nvidia GT650M provides enough power to play many current titles at a reasonable level of quality with reasonable framerates. While this is not comparable to more expensive and more powerful models, it is still a very good level of performance for the price. The 1080p screen is also very nice for gaming and other media content. Web pages can look a little small so if you are slightly visually impaired you might want to consider a lower resolution or be prepared to zoom in a lot, but if like me you are able to read small text and are willing to do so you will not be disappointed with the way this screen looks. The speakers on this laptop are also fantastic and a lot of people to whom I have shown the laptop have commented on the fantastic quality the speakers provide. One other issue I do have which I have not yet got round to resolving but I will be contacting Lenovo in search of a solution is the wireless card. The 5.2Ghz spectrum does not appear to work and it will not connect faster than 144Mbps, despite the card and my router being capable more. However, I expect there is a solution to this and will update my review once I have spoken to Lenovo this week.
