A marked improvement on the previous model, but nothing 'special'

The whole thing is extremely easy to set up. You'll need to buy your own HDMI cable as it's not included, but once you've got that, you're pretty much sorted. The player doesn't require you to change any settings when setting up as it does it automatically, but it gives you the option to do so at the Main Menu. You can play YouTube videos and connect the player to your computer/laptop, but this requires a separate Wi-Fi dongle, which again is not included.This plays Blu Ray discs beautifully, and upscales regular DVDs to near-HD quality. Also, if you have any movies on an external hard drive, you can play them using the USB port on the front of the machine. In regards to the remote, I could not find any batteries despite it saying they should be included, but nonetheless, the remote itself is very straightforward, and the buttons are firm, meaning that you won't need to `button-mash' all the time, as is the case on the previous model.Essentially, this is a slight upgrade from the Philips BDP3200/05 DivX Plus HD Blu-Ray Disc/DVD Player. The only major differences are a tiny redesign (slightly more rounded, and the buttons are on the top of the machine rather than on the front) as well as the added 3D capabilities, which I unfortunately cannot review because my TV is not 3D compatible. I'm sure, however, that as 3D is now a pretty common bit of technology, and based on the fact that the machine does everything else well, the 3D function is probably pretty good.Finally, the one major difference that I've noticed is that connecting to an external hard drive is now SO MUCH QUICKER. On the old model, it would take a few minutes to load the hard drive, and another few minutes to navigate through folders, etc. Now, it is much quicker (pretty much instant access).On the whole, Philips are pretty reliable and produce decent quality machines for a decent price. A good, improved upgrade from the previous model, but nothing TOO innovative or TOO outlandish, just decent.

Good quality at a reasonable price.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this player, it does what it should, though minus a few bells and whistles. If your looking for a competent entry level 3D BluRay player, then this Philips will give you what you need.The image is good (certainly better than PS3), BluRays look great and DVDs benefit from upscaling as well. It handles 3D as well as it does standard video, so that complementing your expensive 3DTV oughtn't be a strain on your bank account.Connectivity is solely HDMI and as a cable is not included make sure that you order one at the same time. There are a couple of internet options, namely YouTube and Picasa, the latter holds no interest for me but I regularly view YouTube and there's enough quality HD content there now to make watching it on a big telly desirable. That said you'll need to connect to your router via a ethernet cable or purchase a separate wireless dongle and once on YouTube inputting search terms can be a little tedious. Sadly BBC iPlayer is missing, something that my previously purchased BluRay player has and we use fairly regularly.With a connection to your network, either wired or wirelessly, you can access DLNA enabled devices, such as smartphones or laptops, thus you can access media from these devices. This is not always as easy as it sounds, as it's a little time consuming getting everything switched on and connected, though this is less hassle if your going to be using it for an extended period of time - watching a film for instance.Overall, I'm impressed with the player, particularly as it is pretty cheap for a 3D model, though built in wireless and BBC iPlayer would have made it perfect for me.

This is a good quality player which is a nice gloss black and surprisingly small.I found both BR and DVD discs looked great when played back with nice crisp colours and definition (although a lot depends on your tv) and although not a major fan of 3D it handled that fine.The player is internet enabled so you can purchase a Wi-Fi adaptor seperately or hook it up using ethernet as I have done. Doing so allows you access to Youtube and picassa from the player. Playback from Youtube was fine however the included small remote made searching for video's a time consuming affair. I also managed to get my device to see my media shares on my nas and it handled playback fine. However, being limited with the remote I really wouldn't want to do that again anytime soon. However I have since discovered you can download an app for using your idevice as a remote!The player also handles media from usb devices and there's a usb port on the front. I tried some mkv's which played fine and looked good.Overall I like this player, it does what it says on the tin very well and for the price I wouldn't expect a lot more. However, I would have liked to have seen a hdmi cable included and perhaps the options to add other online channels such as BBC iplayer. A good solid player.
